Misericordia - Not just a brand

Misericordia

Since Misericordia celebrates 10 years of existence we decided to discover more about this unique brand and it’s creator Aurelyen!

Misericordia is not just a brand; Misericordia is more of an artistic expression for the designer Aurelyen.

Aurelyen was born in Seine-Saint-Denis and he expressed his love for art from a very young age. He entered the Fine Arts College where he perfected his artistic sense and skills. As soon as he completed his studies, Aurelyen decided to travel the world searching for new cultures and artistic inspirations.

After several journeys he ended up in Peru, felt in love with the lively city of Lima and decided to settle there. Alongside his friend Mathieu Reumaux he decided to initiate a project that combines artistic creation and social engagement – Misericordia. Their motto?  "Manos, Espiritu y Corazón": we work with our hands, our spirit and our heart.

The first collection was presented in 2003 at the Salon Tranoï. The brand had great success during the years, and so far has been distributed in stores like Colette and also opened his own shop at 9 rue de Charonne 75011 in Paris.

Misericordia celebrates it's 10 years of existence now! Through the decade Misericordia is worldwide marketed and achieved to work alongside the leading names in the fashion industry like Bernard Willhelm, Stephan Schneider, Kris Van Assche or designer Matali Crasset and the Center Pompidou. The most recent collaboration is with Christine Phung in 2014.

Impressed with Aurelyen's work, we decided to do a mini interview with the designer himself to find out a bit more about the mastermind behind Misecordia.

What is the first piece of clothing you ever designed?

A T-shirt with a beautiful silk screen, I had drawn on several nights.

How would you define the style that Misericordia represents?

This season, our urban uniform consists of pure and simple volumes enhance the elegance of the minimalist rooms. Invitation to enjoy the present moment, Misericordia is for lovers of style informal and relaxed lifestyle. The refinement of the Misericordia collection is enhanced by pure colors that magnify the finest Peruvian textiles.
On the other side of the mirror, we develop a graphical world, consisting of printed all over that develop a beautiful three-dimensional landscape. A very poetic and artistic environment that emerges from our line of jersey. Through mixed pieces that wander between the dressing of our girlfriend and our boyfriend.

Each customer can reclaim our creations, our innovation thrives on the memory of our workshop. These are stories that need to take these bags, and cut the road to South America!

Where do you imagine Misericordia five years from now?

Always between Lima and Paris. A major project, beautiful and strong, continues to proudly express its values with resistance. My sewing room is a research laboratory in constant innovation. Our collections reflect this change in style and this revolution in knowledge. Feet firmly planted in South America, we want to continue to spread our message of sharing and creation around the world with a network of shops still sharp.

How would you describe the SS15 men’s collection?

Freshness, emotion and spice. We use for our collection, the best cotton in Peru, including the Pima, acknowledged to be the fiber, most luxurious and soft. Our selection of clothes and our colorful range brings freshness in summer wardrobe.

We would like to say a BIG thank you to Aurelyen for finding the time to answer our questions and to +CRISTOFOLIPRESS
